Jake Davis test shot : James Wilson

Jake Davis Test Shots: James Wilson from Jake Davis on Vimeo.

Usually I don't really like to talk about someone's style, because I don't think it takes so many skills to have beautfil clothes. But this guy caught my eye, his look is simple, well proportioned, and well balanced between casual and smart. Perfect everyday outfit, not overdressed, I dig it.

Fall-Winter 2010...on my feet

From left to right on the first and second pictures : Timberland/Abington boat, Dr Martens 1461, Mark McNairy brogue, Luca boat high, Clarks desert boot, Redwing chukka

Mark McNairy longwing brogues

I was looking for a pair of suede brogues, and I did not want them to be brown, neither a too extrentic color, so the navy came naturally. After a quick research on the internet I found these McNairy's that were exactly what I wanted. The quality is definitely here, they are extremely comfortable and light, especially for smart shoes, and they look really good.

Thank you Patsy

September is here, so it is time to focus less on boat shoes and canvas sneakers, and more on leather mid or high top shoes. One of my fall/winter pair of shoes will be this pair of Redwing chukkas. In this period of boots frenzy, I was pleased to discover that with these shoes, I bought a product that not only looks, but FEELS tough. They have a steel toe, keep ankles in place very well and feature a leather that makes me think a bit about the one that is on horse riding seats. A pure quality, american-made product.

Too much

Clarks for Concepts | Fall Weaver Boot Collaboration from The Buther's Block on Vimeo.

Here is a video presenting the upcoming collaboration between Clarks and Concepts. When I first watched it, I knew what I was about to see in approximatively...2 seconds. An old man, shot in black and white, slowly building shoes with his tired hands, giving an impression of craftsmanship, quality materials, tradition, durability, etc...Boring. I mean, quality and handmade stuff are not boring, but talking too much about them is. Today everybody is talking about quality, about making shoes that will last ten years in a world where trends change every season. All these brands that put their heart and soul in making valuable products will probably be forgotten in two years (by the young fashion addicts at least), and we will keep hearing "made-in-China-brands" explaining us that "they use only the best leathers to offer premium products" on their Vimeo HD accounts. I have a pair of Clarks desert boots, the leather is produced in England but they are made in...Vietnam.

I just discovered this shop, and I am pretty impressed. There are a very few objects for sale, but they are all the best of theire categories. Highly desirable, and definitly casual.

A.P.C. x Carhartt

After a small preview, we finally got more images of the collab between A.P.C. and Carhartt. It is exactly what I was waiting for, good basics, solid looking fabrics, no surprise, which is a very good news. On my wishlist : jacket and grey tee.
The rest of the collection can be seen here.
PS : people who know about french music have probably noticed that the rapper Joey Starr is in the shooting...

Hasso accessories

Besides the accessories themselves, I really like the way they are shown. I think the pictures are a perfect mix between putting the accessories in a situation of everyday use, and showing them in details properly. Simple, efficient and beautiful, bravo!
All the pictures can be seen in this Selectism article.

Have you seen him ?

If you have already been in Paris, you have probably seen one of the characters of the Street artist Space Invader. Even though I'm not that much into Street art, I really really love his characters, they look cute and go straight to their point : giving an impression of smooth invasion, it is like aliens were slowly coming to watch human beings, and learning how to live in our cities. This one is on the Canal Saint-Martin.

A.P.C. x Carhartt

Really interesting preview, now I have two things left to do : waiting for a release date, and learning how to spell Carhartt properly. Anyway, I already want this tee!

Today's look

Fixiestudio

I just discovered this website called Fixiestudio, a sort of "Nike iD for bike" where you can imagine the machine of your dreams. Pretty useless but very funny, since we all know that fixie and single speed afficionados are obsessed with the look of their bikes... Here is my version of the perfect one, I'm not really into that fluo pieces stuff, so I tried to stay classic. The only problem is that it makes me want to work on my real bike to make it look like this one!

Mast Brothers Chocolate

One of the comments on this video says "Chocolate made by hipsters". What else can you say! They look very funny with their beards and their small glasses, and I like their philosophy, always wanting to be part of a movement that looks for quality and traditional making.

Levi's x Opening Ceremony "Cords" collection

I was looking for a good corduroy trouser for a while now, and my dream finally came true with this collaboration between Levi's and New York's label Opening Ceremony. The two brands have created a micro collection called "Cords", and I have to say I like all the clothes in it. Even though I'm not digging certain colorways (I am not really sure about white corduroy...), I find the pieces they choosed to work on interesting and smartly used. I am just a bit upset about one thing : why do we need a collab/special edition to get simple, unicolor and basic corduroy pieces like these?
Anyway, I just ordered a blue trouser, and I can't wait for it to come to my house...
